Description Various sites and how to obtain the latest Driver Updates.

Solution Summary Top
FROM THE INTERNET:
------------------

1) Use ftp to connect to ftp.uu.net

        'ftp ftp.uu.net'

2) At the login prompt, use 'anonymous'.

3) For the password, use your complete e-mail address.

4) At the ftp prompt, set file type to binary

        ftp> binary <RETURN>

5) cd /vendor/sun/sun-doc/x-86-driver/2.4

6) 'ls' will show you several directories named for the driver
   update number. For example, DU7.

7) 'cd' into the UPDATE directory that is the most recent (or the
one that contains the DU# you need). It is here that you find
the compressed tar archives, video drivers, README's, and DU
   documentation.

8) 'get' the compressed tar archive that you need (.3 files for
   3.5" diskettes, .5 files for 5.25" diskettes).

'get' the video driver patch if you need it.

'get' the README file, for instructions on what to do with the
files once you have them on your local system.

'get' the .ps file, for a postscript Driver Update Guide, and/or

'get' the .ascii or .txt file, for an text Driver Update Guide.

9) Quit the FTP session

	ftp> quit	<RETURN>

10) Follow the directions in the README file and then the Driver
Update Guide to install the update.

	NOTE:

You will have to uncompress and untar some of these files.
If you do not have access to Unix, and the Unix tar and
uncompress utilities, there are utilities available for doing
the uncompress and untar on a PC. These programs would be
available in the SimTel MSDOS software collection. Two ftp
sites that carry these programs are wuarchive.wustl.edu and
 	oak.oakland.edu.

You will also need to use dd to create DU diskettes. If you
do not have access to Unix, and the Unix dd utility, you may
obtain	a DOS version of dd.exe from:
	/vendor/sun/sun-doc/x-86-driver/

NOTE: Another anonymous ftp site where you can obtain Driver Updates is:

	sunsite.unc.edu (pub/sun-info/solaris-x86/sunsoft-drivers)

FROM THE WORLD WIDE WEB:
------------------------

The WWW (http://access1.Sun.COM)-Click on "SunSoft's Support Resolutions
Answer Center," and then select "Solaris," and then click on
"Solaris Driver Update."

zip version is on this site

FROM COMPUSERVE:
----------------

To obtain files from CompuServe, establish a CompuServe session and
at the prompt type "g sunsoft" or "go sunsoft". Proceed to the
Solaris x86 Library ("lib 9"). You can then download the ZIP archive
which contains the diskette image files you need.

If you do not have an unzipper program (such as unzip, or pkunzip),
they are available on compuserve.

Note that the diskette image files must be transferred to a diskette
using the UNIX "dd" command or an equivalent DOS utility. The file
dd.exe posted here is a DOS executable that will allow you to make
diskette copies on a DOS system. The utility accepts the name of
the diskette image file and will copy it to the floppy:
E.G.: dd.exe [fname] a:

Follow the directions in the README file and then the Driver Update
Guide to install the update.
