INSTALLATION OF
ORACLE WORKGROUP SERVER ON NT

Steps to follow for installing Oracle software on NT server :

  1. Insert the Oracle CD into the CDRom Drive.
  2. There needs to be an area for the spooled version of the software on the NT server’s disk. The install cannot be run from the CDRom. The CDRom strictly contains zipped files. Therefore create a "staging area" for the software. I personally keep the area around forever. It makes for good reference and repair. For reference I used e:\ows
  3. Following the readme file is always recommended but here is what to do. From a dos window, while located in the new stage area, type the following : "f:\ows\nt\owsnt713.exe -d" where f is the CDRom drive. This will extract the Oracle Workgroup Server 2000 files needed for install.
  4. From the e:\ows\nt\install directory , execute the orainst.exe setup program. Provide your name and a location for Oracle to be installed. I used e:\oracle. I always choose custom install. (I forget which installer asks, but choose the Microsoft 32bit VXD TCP/IP when asked)
  5. The following products should be chosen by using the familiar CTRL and mouse click on each desired item :
  6. Oracle Installer 3.0.10.3.C
    Oracle 7 Server 7.1.3.3.3
    Oracle 7 Utilities 7.1.3.3.3
    Required Support Files 7.1.3.3.3
    SQL*Net 2.1

  7. Exit that installer, its time for the next one.
  8. From the e:\ows\windows\install directory, execute the setup.exe setup program. Dont use the orainst.exe program here, it seems to lock up the server.
  9. Choose English and company name (own name if needed), and custom install. The following products should be chosen but MUST BE INSTALLED ONE AT A TIME. Any other method will lock up the server. If at any time, it is noticed that one of the following packages has been installed already by a preceding package, then of course skip it. If however, your machine locks up, bring up the task manager in nt and kill the process. Restart the setup program and first try to uninstall the package that cause the problem and then resume by reinstalling that one and the rest. Here are the packages needed :
  10. Database Administration Tools 7.1.4.1.0
    Gui Common Files 2.1.4.9.1A
    Oracle TCP/IP adapter 2.1.4.1.3A
    SQL*Net 2.1.4.1.4
    Required Support Files 7.1.4.0.4A
    Network Manager 2.1.4.0.0
    SQL*Plus 3.1.3.5.4A
