Oracle Information:

Please see the installation section for information on how to install.

Welcome to the test/demo web-site for Oracle Forms over the web, among other things. This page is running on an NT 4.0 Server and accessing Oracle Databases on one of two SCO Unix servers (One OpenServer, the other UnixWare7).

The following two links are only available for Internet Explorer 4.0 or greater, Netscape Communicator/Navigator 4.5 or greater, and will not work with any version of AOL's browser, nor will it work with any version of MSN at this point.

This just in. The newest Netscape Communicator/Navigator 4.50 works great with this. In fact, it works better than IE4.01, which I am proud to say. The IE4.01 problem is with alert windows. They seem to crash any further use of the software with out stopping and restarting the whole application. THis creates a problem for items like our Human Resource "which year" popup. The Communicator/Navigator works MUCH better. No crashes.  Sun's Java browser seems to be the only one that doesnt work now !!!.

Supposedly this all has to do with the java runtime version required on the client pc/nc/workstation by the Oracle display engine. Sorry for any inconvenience this my have caused potential users. For any users with Oracle products on their desktop's, the Oracle Java Application Viewer seems to work ok.

Dont forget to see the books page for links right to Amazon.com, about some very good book(s) on this subject.

This link is to the Oracle database application, but you will need a username/password combo for access. It runs off the Primary NT server's listener and uses the Oracle Web Application Server version 3.0.18. Click here to launch.

This link is to the Oracle database application, but you will need a username/password combo for access. It runs off the Primay NT server's backup listener and also uses the Oracle Web Application Server version 3.0.18. Click here to launch.

This link is to the Oracle database application, but you will need a username/password combo to access it. It runs off the Backup NT server's primay listener, and uses the Oracle Web Aplication Server version 4.0 Beta. You can find that page here.

Oracle Web Application Server Installation:

You will need to have the Developer 2000 Server version loaded on the Middle Tier to make this work. That server and application contains the Oracle Forms Server Listener. Following is how to load it :

  • Insert Developer 2000 Server CD
  • Select Name and Location.
  • Since this server was not an Oracle Server (I use Unix for that), any OracleHome will do, so I set it to E:\orant
  • Choose Custom installation
  • Select all options except OCSM (doesnt work), INTERSOLV, and Open Client.
  • OK to install Microsoft products.
  • Accept defaults for all directories
  • Setup e:\orant\network\admin files and test

Not really much to that step.

Now lets move on to the actual Web Application Server installation. This is version 4 limited production :

  • Run the setup.exe program from the OWS\4.0 directory
  • Accept defaults for installation settings
  • From the Oracle Installer, choose OAS 4.0.5.1.0 and install
  • Choose Custom Installation
  • Install a single Node
  • Install All cartridges
  • Defaults for Site Info (name=website40, port=2649)
  • Admin Settings : port=8888, username=admin, password=********
  • TCP port for admin listener=8889
  • Choose Microsoft IIS3.0 listener (PLEASE dont have SP4 loaded on NT or you run into all types of trouble - trust me!!! If you do have IIS4.0 and cant do anything about it, still use the IIS3.0 setting)
  • Port number is 88 and name is www
  • Dont set the wallet users password. Leave it same as admins.
  • Let wallet directory be as suggested
  • Allow all JDBC drivers
  • install PL/SQL toolkit PKGS now
  • Use remote database, sco7 in my case
  • Enter password for sys

To use, launch a browser, and point to http://127.0.0.1:8888/
