Steps to install Personal Oracle 7 on a windows for workgroups/windows95 network :

• Make sure to have a full TCP/IP network running and pinging successfully first.
• Install the Workgroup Server CDRom in the D: drive of the windows 95 machine.
• Start an MSDos session.
• Create a directory on the C: drive of the windows 95 server called po7.
• Change to that po7 directory.
• While in that directory run the program on the CDRom for Oracle Workgroup Server by typing the following :

c:\po7> d:\po7w9572.exe -d

• Create another directory on the C: drive of the window 95 server called po7w31.
• Change to that po7w31 directory and run the program on the CDRom drive by typing : c:\po7w31> pkunzip d:\po7eew71.zip -d
• After this has been loaded and unzipped, you may exit the dosprompt.
• From the explorer program, run the program "setup.exe" located in the directory called c:\po7\win95\install.
• This will begin the oracle installer. Load the database server, the tcp/ip drivers (version 2) and sql net and all of its components. Obviously install the installer, and all support files neccessary.
• Run the sqlnet easy configuration.
• Add a database alias so that you can name your own databse to connect to. Use the "ORCL" instance name. For the alias, use tcp/ip and name your server name.
• Edit the *.ora files to modify the network server node and address. Dont use the loopback number or you wont be able to copy these files to a client machine later.

Steps to add a client to the Oracle Database :

Make sure that ANY oracle stuff on the local pc is gone. That includes the windows oracle.ini file as well as any *.ora files in windows or any other directory. This also includes the removal of the oracle directory from the path statement in the autoexec.bat file.
